This is the overall landscape design for the 1945 Bungalow. The design included flower gardens in the front of the house, vegetable gardens on the side and a woodland garden at the rear along with a rectangle of lawn for play.
This is a detail of the flower bed designs at the front of the house. Note the arbor, apple tree, stepping stones and other details. Constance Spry roses climbed the arbor.
Irises and roses were a beautiful spring combination along the white picket fence. Beneath the arbor, complementary colors of pansies were interplanted with hibiscus and daffodil bulbs.
Flowerbed on the right side of the walk in July. Notice the asters, coreopsis and dianthus among other plants. Here is the same bed one year earlier in the spring. Pansies were used for early color. Old broken pots are used in the garden to create interest and fill in seasonal holes.
The garden in late summer.
Three kinds of hibiscus were used to create light screening around the porch, enhancing the sense of privacy and liveliness. Hummingbirds loved the big red hibiscus flowers.
